How Many Nappies Do You Use Each Day on Your Baby? What if You Used Just ONE Less Nappy Each Day...

Practicing Elimination Communication - starting part time and simply 'saving' the use of one nappy today, another nappy tomorrow - from little changes you can raise a 'lower carbon' baby, a greener baby!

Collectively We Use MILLIONS of Nappies Daily - Most of Which Go into Landfill. What if Each of Us Could Reduce Our Nappy Use By Just ONE? It's an Interesting Thought...

How? By discovering how to turn on your 'EC Senses', (Using your skills in elimination communication) and using your 'EC Toolbox' you can skip a nappy here...a nappy there - it will add up to big changes in time.

Hi Charndra,
I found your 7 secrets very encouraging - I did not know this approach was possible and I was sceptical that it would work, particularly as my son is over 1 year.
However, I have been amazed that we can save 3-4 nappies per day!

Your 'EC Toolbox' is the many ways you can connect with your baby to help them stay clean and dry - and their nappy unused for now - whatever type of nappy it is. EC isn't just a matter of 'not using nappies', rather you and your baby cooperate together to keep the nappy dry for spells of time. Later on you'll skip nappies altogether in some situations.

You'll find that some 'EC Tools' suit you better than others - luckily there are a lot of ways to skip a nappy... you might be part-time nappy free only when baby wearing for example.

Even 1 less nappy at a time adds up, and it is daily experience for your little one as well...

When you are focussing on building your 'EC Senses', you are listening to your baby and offering them the opportunity to go outside their nappy when you anticipate their need based on their behaviour. In time your baby will 'signal' more clearly in some circumstances at first, and you build from there. After they go, you put their nappy back on, for peace of mind...

By practicing EC part time and connecting with your baby to use just one less nappy at a time, imagine the potential benefits to the environment of just a few less nappies from each baby going into the landfill or needing to be washed - it could be quite significant!

What's In Your EC Toolbox?

Let's look at some of your 'tools' for reducing your reliance on nappies a little closer:

  • Baby Wearing: You can keep a nappy dry for longer by wearing your baby in a carrier - baby wearing enthusiasts can wear their baby nappy free, or just know when to pop them out and take off their nappy for a wee...
  • Attention to Foods: Some families find this quite significant - the difference between long 'dry streaks' and baby being a 'wee fountain'! Perhaps this is one of the reasons some kids are in nappies longer than ever in history - all the additives and preservatives in the modern diet...
  • Prime Timing: Knowing when your baby is most likely to go is a key way to begin 'catching', and from there, communicating. Come inside to find out more tips to 'Ease into EC'...
  • Breastfeeding is a key way to 'talk' to your baby non-verbally - like baby wearing, you 'listen' to your baby with your body - and 'tweaking' your observation just a tad really does enable you to keep a nappy dry (and clean as well - a huge bonus) - imagine that!
  • Eye contact and Observation - everyday 'mumming' awareness - tweak it a little bit and you'll have fewer nappies to manage - and be having fun with your baby, singing potty songs perhaps! Come inside to find out more about the ways simple eye contact aids in your part-time ec'ing...
  • Using Baby Sign Language and gestures can help you communicate non verbally more easily with your baby...
  • Considering the Environment - just knowing the impact of Reducing your use of any sort of nappies can motivate you to find ways to skip a nappy and make greener nappy choices...it certainly helps me to reach for a cloth option more often!

What if one of these 'EC Tools' enabled you to use just one less nappy today?

Even more exciting - what if each of the tools helped you to use one less nappy each day - hmm, there are 12 tools listed here! Well, perhaps not every day, but perhaps over a week? The concept is part-time nappy free after all.

In time that will be a lot less nappies as you discover how to cooperate with your baby in these many ways to become part time nappy free - yippee! What a great thing for your budget, your bond, the environment and best of all - your baby...

...I thought I'd give it a go and if it saved
one nappy a day that would be great...

"For our family EC has opened up a whole new world. I stumbled across the concept in a parenting magazine while I was pregnant and thought that sounds like too much work, but couldn't get it out of my mind.

But EC made sense. Conventional Toilet Training doesn't when you think about it, so I thought I'd give it a go and if it saved one nappy a day that would be great.

I had no idea that at 16 months my little boy would hardly be wearing nappies, and we would have so few messy nappies to clean.

My husband is especially pleased as he was dreading pooey nappies, and we very rarely have any. So thank goodness for EC."

"1 Less Nappy - but that's not intimidating at all! I can do that!"

1 less nappy a day over 2.5 years is over 912 fewer nappies - that's a lot of experience for your baby too, and a lot of moments connecting with your baby in a positive, fun way...

1 less nappy a day over 3 years is 1095 fewer nappies - that's over $492 saved if you consider an average disposable nappy costs .45c...

Even 1 less pooey nappy each week is 156 nappies you can avoid having to wash - I'm not actually sure how many washing loads that would be...BUT I do know that is less resources being used... and reducing our ecological footprint in these small ways is a GOOD THING.

The goal of this website is not about 'early toilet training' - it is about reducing your use of nappies by 'tweaking' the skills you already have, by adding in some new skills, to help you have a 'greener' baby, save money - and have FUN in the process as you connect with your baby in a slightly different way than is currently common. We'll be focussing on the process, the journey - when your baby reaches consistent independence is an individual thing...

'EC' is a traditional, ancient way of caring for your baby's hygiene needs - and yes, you can ease into these ideas gradually - perhaps the easiest way of doing anything...by easing into EC it will seem as if it is just a natural extension of your parenting abilities - because it IS a natural thing, yet a learned skill as well. Luckily you have your baby to help you, and you can help your baby -you do it together as it is cooperative, it is teamwork, it is just lovely!
